December 2014 Newsletter, International Centre for Evidence in Disability

Dear all,

Happy International Day of Persons with Disabilities! And welcome to the December newsletter from the International Centre for Evidence in Disability (ICED).

We are also in the midst of 16 days of activism against gender-based violence. To honour this event we had a wonderful event today, co-hosted with the Gender and Violence Group, on Violence and Persons with Disabilities. This was filmed and will be on our website soon.

Our sister organisation, the International Centre for Eye Health, have led the development of Peek – a portable device to assess vision and eye disease. www.peekvision.org. The Peek Retina smartphone camera adapater enables easy imaging inside the eye. Community workers in remote parts of the world will be able to find blind or visually impaired people and test them easily with Peek. To make this technology available, a crowdfunding campaign has been set up to raise the funds needed to manufacture and distribute Peek Retina. www.supportpeek.com

Please share this newsletter with your colleagues and let us know about items you would like included in future issues.

You can also now follow us on Twitter @ICED_LSHTM.

Have a wonderful holiday season and a Happy New Year.

Best wishes,
Hannah Kuper and Allen Foster
